Q. What is a balloon?
A. A balloon is a flexible bag normally filled with a gas, such as helium, hydrogen, nitrous oxide or air.
Q. When was the balloon invented?
A. Balloons have been around for 100s of years and they were first made of animal bladder.
But the current day modern balloon as we know it was rumoured to be invented by Michael Faraday in the 19th Century.
Q. How Long can a balloon last once inflated?
A. This all depends on what type of balloon and what is used to fill it. Not to bore you with chemistry, the foil balloons will last the longest and some times upto a few weeks. The rubber balloons can last no more than a day as the perfect rubber membrane eventually loses the gas to the outside. If a rubber balloon is filled with helium, the helium atoms escape through small pores in the latex which are larger than the helium atoms. If a rubber balloon is filled with air. It can last a few days.
Q. Are balloons safe for the environment?
All Cork Balloon Company balloons are manufactured from environmentally friendly naturally occurring latex. This makes the balloons biodegradable and they degrade roughly at the same rate as an tree leaf.
